I was so excited to read this book (actually listen to it as I received an audio book as an Advance Reader Copy), but my enthusiasm quickly diminished as I got into it. Some of my issues were nit picky, personal irritations—like the phrase “stretched too thin” being used far too often (I know, I know, book title and all), also “all the things” and other overused, cutesy phrases—but most of it was from lack of audience awareness, or perhaps it wasn’t lacking. Perhaps the intended audience put forth in the book should have been narrowed from the very broad “every working mother” category to the “middle/upper middle class (and ideally married) working mother” group instead. That would have made a difference in my reading experience, as my expectations would have been more in line with what I found.Don’t get me wrong—there is a good deal of valuable information for working mothers of all economic and marital statuses in this book. Some of the tips for balancing time and prioritizing are helpful, as are the reminders that we are good mothers and loving our children well is the main standard there. I loved those parts of the book.So here’s my issue: far too many of the suggestions and examples are only accessible to women with money (and a spouse in many cases). For instance, she mentions hiring a cleaning service to take that chore off her plate while suggesting working mothers figure out what can be similarly outsourced in their own lives. I know very few families who can afford such things, and far fewer single mothers who can. (I was a single mom for 10+ years and for many years could barely afford cleaning supplies much less a cleaning service!) Several times throughout the book she mentions taking girls trips, and not just a weekend at a local hotel but full fledged, fancy destination vacations with friends. While that sounds absolutely divine, it’s completely impractical for so many women. These are just two examples, but similar things are sprinkled throughout the book. Another issue for me was the assumption that all working mothers have offices or careers that allow for privacy, space, closed door work. I do have that kind of work environment, but I have countless friends who don’t. So many of them are working the line at fast food restaurants or registers at Target or cleaning buildings or some other job that doesn’t allow for such luxuries. Please know that I am not bashing her or her family’s ability to afford such luxuries. I think it’s great they can! My problem with it all is this: despite all their promises to make life better and easier, so many books geared toward moms present ideas and lives that are hard to obtain/maintain, and that often leads to readers of those books being frustrated, dissatisfied, and hard on themselves for not being able to be, have, or do those things for their families. From my own experience this can be especially true for single moms with very limited resources. It can be devastating. All of this caused me to be very frustrated as I listened to the book because, for me, it fell into this trap.Turner did mention once or twice that not everyone can afford such things and for readers to find their own shortcuts and self care strategies within their means, but it was very brief, almost an afterthought. Additionally, only once did she explicitly address single mothers, and that was when talking about a working mother’s relationship with her husband and how that chapter wasn’t for single moms. That wasn’t enough. I realize she has not been a single mother and cannot fully understand what that life entails, and I’m thankful she has not/cannot. Because of that, though, a great deal of her tips and suggestions are not practical for many singlemothers (at least the ones I know). This is yet another reason I feel the intended audience should have been more narrowly defined.I realize my opinion of the book may very well be more clouded by my experiences and biases than I’m aware. Maybe other single moms or moms of lesser means don’t feel the same way, which is totally fine. All I know for sure is so much of the book put me right back in that place of sadness and desperation I used to find myself in as an impoverished single mother who was trying to do all these great things but failing miserably at most of them (because they weren’t realistic to begin with).Overall, I believe this book has value. It is a good encouragement and resource for the audience it fits (and likely for those who it might not fit but go in knowing what to expect). Am I glad I read it? Sure. Will I read it again? No.

I was so excited to read this book. In fact, it was one of the only books I’ve ever pre-ordered. But it just wasn’t a good fit for me. I didn’t learn any new suggestions. Plus, I’m a single mom of four and I work nights and weekends at a hospital. This book should have been marketed to upper middle class, married moms who work a 9-5 office job.

I really wanted to like this book (I’m the target audience) but I couldn’t finish it. It reads like a long to do list (which is ironic given the title) with excessive cliche statements. I wish she included more narrative from her story or others instead of a laundry list of things moms can do and generic sounding advice.

This book is absolutely phenomenal and a must read for working moms (and honestly all moms). I am not a traditional working mom - I am a Reservist that does not have a civilian career, so stay at home with my kids 94% of the time but found Jessica's book to be so encouraging. She addresses mom guilt and gives practical tips. My favorite chapter was probably her chapter on friendship and community - things that we all need. I had the opportunity to listen to the audio book, which was read by the author and included little tidbits that are not in the print version. We all go through seasons in our lives where we are stretched too thin. This book is just what you need in the midst of those season. I highly recommend it to any and all working moms.

I don't think it's a coincidence that I finished listening to Jessica Turner's new book Stretched Too Thin while shopping at Target. (If you follow Jessica, she loves Target and it runs deep)! 🎯♥️I look forward listening again and to reading the physical copy of the book so I can underline and take notes! #somuchgoodnessLike Jess' first book, one read is never enough!! If you are a working Mom, or if you are a mom who does #allthethings but don't feel like you're doing any of them well, you need to order this book!

Every mom has felt like she is being pulled in a thousand different directions, but there is a particular stress on working moms that is unique. Not only do they have to do everything all the other moms do, but they also have to balance a career, find time for self care, and manage the emotional and mental weight that comes with being both a working mother. It's a LOT. And it is stretching us so thin that we are left wondering if we will ever feel like a good mom (or employee!) ever again. Jessica Turner understands this and "Stretched Too Thin" is a book that grabs you by the shoulders and says, "Me too. I get it" and then offers you an opportunity for help. It's more than just a "you rah rah" cheerleader book, but is more of a practical handbook for the working mother that offers interactive pages for self-reflection and goal-setting, encouragement, and strategies for how working mothers can change the conversation they have with others and with themselves surrounding their careers and motherhood. Highly recommend this book for moms who are working in any field, any number of hours, at any level.

This new book by Jessica Turner is fantastic. I had access to the audio version as a part of the launch team and listened to it in just days. I honestly loved everything about this book and ordered 10 more copies on pre-order to give away as gifts to family, friends and teachers. The messages and ideas in the book are simple and yet profound. She uses stories from her own life and backs it up with statistical data to show working women how to find ways to lose the guilt and thrive in their work, home and personal life. Every working mom should read this book! Now that I have the hard copy in my hands I will be going back through it to highlight those parts I want to remember!

#30,625 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Great new voice in a cozy mystery series that develops around 4 cats and the humans that are in their lives. I found it a delightful, smooth read. The author creates characters.. feline and human in such a way that they come alive to the reader. I laughed out loud at some of the antics of these feline sleuths! I look forward to reading more of Karen Golden's books. Hopefully we will hear more about the cats in their new environment soon.

The basic plot had potential, but the writing was very uneven. I was a fan of Lilian Jackson Braun's popular "Cat Who" books and had lived in Indiana, so really wanted to like this book set in Indiana. After reading it, however, I'm glad I only paid 99 cents for the Kindle version. My main criticisms: the author tried to mimic Braun's Cat Who series, but without the quality of writing. She used the same premise as Braun (city dweller inherits unexpected wealth but must move to a small town and live in big house). She used some of the same cat behavior from Braun's books (the cat's "death dance" and a cat chewing on potential clues). She tried to copy accents, such as Braun used for a Scottish character, but in this book it just came across as contrived and annoying (her friend's psuedo-Irish sayings). Even the title, "The Cat That...," is a rip-off of Braun's "Cat Who" series titles. When I read Braun's books, I felt as though I knew her characters and small town. When I finished this book, I had no interest in reading any more about these annoying characters or the sad little Indiana town.

I was looking forward to this book as a light read, so I didn't have high expectations. I thought that if this was good, maybe I'd try out the rest of her books in this category. But for the first half of the book (literally), nothing happened. I mean ... nothing. Sure, there was a move to Erie. There was a snowstorm. But as much as I love cats (I have two cute ones!), it was tiring after a while to just read a bunch of descriptions of what her cats were saying (basically, "waugh!" over and over again). I wanted the plot to move forward, not read a diary of someone.I'm okay with slow books, but there literally was no point in the first half of the book. The author could have summarized it in less than 4 sentences, and it made me put down this book, finish two other books, and then come back because I don't like leaving things unfinished. Finally, at around 60% of the book, the actual murder happened. But then solving the murder was just so predictable, and not actual "solving" happened. Literally, at the end, the chief comes up to the main character and says, "Welp, the person admitted to the murder, so you're all set."Karen Golden tries to convince the readers to read more by inserting a hint of potential foul play with the aunt's death, but if the second book is as drab and boring as this one, then I most definitely will not read it. The way that the characters talked was dry, and the attempt at romance was just ... not working out at all. I think the idea was that nothing romantic would happen? But was there supposed to be tension? This story could have been written in a page, and it's a shame I wasted time on this.

The initial plot of The Cat that Surfed the Net caught my attention, but over half-way through the book and nothing happened except a great deal of exposition. The murder does not happen until over 60% of the book is read and once the murder happens it is at 94%. The murderer confesses very quickly and everyone goes to take a nap.

The mystery part of the story was good. The characters were consistent and well written. I guess from the description I was hoping these books would be a replacement for the "Cat Who" series in my reading collection. The basic premise is the same- person inherits large amount of money with caveat that they have to move to a strange town and live in a strange place. But there the comparison ends. What is quirky and fun and lovable in the hands of Lilian Jackson Braun becomes tedious and over-descriptive here. If the others are like this one, I probably won't purchase more. There's a lot of blow-by-blow description of everything the cats do, which, for the most parts, are all the things all cats everywhere do. There's also a lot of blow-by-blow description of what the characters do, including a long section in the middle which describes a drive through bad weather, getting a hotel room, and eating out that has nothing at all to do with the story being told or the growth of the characters. (But obviously is real life experience from someone who has traveled with cats!) I'll probably try another to see if the writing tightens up, and am hoping it does. I like the concept and I need a new cat mystery series in my life.

I like any book that has a cat in it and this one has four. Unfortunately, they have very little to do with this story. Another problem: the murder doesn't take place until 2/3 of the way through the book. Until then, you have two rather silly women running around terrified of their own shadows. Finally, two corpses show up and one is so random it just had me shaking my headUsually these little cozy mysteries make me laugh and hold my interest throughout but this one was a very hard read and l was glad when I got to its very bad, poorly written ending. I don't know or care if this book will have a sequel because this author is off my reading list.

Always enjoy reading the adventures of Alexandra Cooper and some historical information about NYC.

Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper has returned to work after a devastating experience. With more women feeling empowered in the “Me Too” era the case load in the sex-crimes division is heavy. An engrossing case comes along in the person of Lucy. She’s been arrested on an old shop lifting charge, but strangely she freaks out in the police station after viewing the pictures of prominent police officers on the wall. Although Lucy has a reputation for embroidering the truth, Alexandra believes her and promises to find her attacker.Alexandra also faces a tragedy when her friend, Francie Fain, collapses on the street on the way to Alexandra’s welcome home party. At first it seems a tragic accident, but soon it begins to look more like murder. This is a complex mystery, but it’s easy to follow the various clues. The thread involving Francie is much harder to guess than Lucy’s case, but both are interesting. Alexandra is a driven character. Sometimes it’s hard to like her when she single-mindedly pursues a line of inquiry and puts herself in danger. Luckily, Detective Mike Chapman is there to rescue her and Detective Mercer Wallace supplies calm support.I enjoyed the book. It’s typical of the Alexandra Cooper mysteries, and can seem predictable and slow paced at times, but if you’re a fan, it’s a good one.I received this book from Penguin Random House for this review.

Alexandra Cooper has just come back to work after witnessing the former DA being shot. A young woman is brought to her office who is a possible victim. The woman is caught in several lies, but Alex thinks there is something there. She just has to get the woman to trust her. The alleged perpetrator is a very powerful man and she needs to be very sure before she proceeds. The book had a good cast of characters and a decent plot with plenty of suspense. There were a couple of twists that I saw coming. This was a fairly fast paced story that held my attention. I have read this author before and will do so again. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Many thanks to the author / PENGUIN GROUP Dutton / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own. This is one of my favorite authors and one of my favorite series. I've been following her and reading her since 1996 with the arrival of the very first Alexandra Cooper sighting.Alexandra is back after taking off several months following the murder of her boss. First day back and she's thrown right in the middle of a case that I could see as headline news today.A young woman has come forward to claim she was assaulted 10 years ago ... when she was just 14 years old. The name of her attacker comes as a huge surprise to Alex ... and it's going to take some maneuvering to get this case to court. She's also dealing with one of the court judges .. who has warned Alex that he is divorcing his wife. Alex wants no part of this as she doesn't even like the judge. But a different story is presented when the judge's wife calls Alex with details. And then there the death of Frannie Fain .. a colleague who sits on the other side of the courtroom, but is a good friend nevertheless. She is found outside on the street, convulsing. There's lot of secrecy involving the way she was killed. And when these cases collide, Alexandra, along with her lover. NYPD Detectives Mike Chapman, and Mercer Wallace, one of her best friends, find themselves embroiled in secrets and lies .. some of which somebody will kill to keep them from seeing the light of day. There is so much about this book ...and this series ... that I really enjoy. History trivia is present and accounted for. The three of them love to play JEOPARDY and generally stop wherever they are to watch on TV and make their own wagers. I really like how Alex and Mike's relationship has evolved over the years. I thought they'd never get to this point!Although 20th in this series it can be read as a stand alone .. but this is one series that would be so worthwhile starting at the very beginning.

After returning from a leave of absence, ADA Alex Cooper is immediately thrown into a cold "Me too" case. Lucy is a young girl with a horrible past and penchant for stretching the truth. She has an all too familiar story to tell. Unfortunately, this story involves a famous federally prosecuted case for which Lucy was a witness at age 14. And her molester was a part of the federal team.Later that evening, when Alex and Mercer are returning from a surprise party thrown in her honor, they come across a woman having a seizure in the street. The woman is a former colleague and friend of Alex's enroute to the party. Francie Fain is rushed to the hospital under strange circumstances. We get 2 different cases here: Lucy's rape and Francie's sudden collapse. Lucy's case is rage inducing - the way her rapist cultivated her and created the predatory relationship. It only gets worse when Lucy reveals the identity of her abuser. And poor Francie, walking to her friends party only to end up in the hospital. There is a lot going on in this book but the story is easy to follow and well done. I'm so happy that we have the normal Alex back, after the last book! Bring on the next one!

5 stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is a page-turner like all of Linda Fairstein's books in this series. I love the history of Rockefeller University in this book #20 (and that you can start with this book even if you have not read the other 19 in the series). I can't wait for book #21!

#6,635 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I am from Hong Kong and I have studied Taoist Qi-gong for 4 years. One day I come across this book and I am just stunned. The (two-volume) books are so packed with information that it seems to me like an "index". I am reading the book slowly. The Merkaba energy flow within the body described in the book are very similar to what we do in the Chinese Qi-Gong. For example,1. One important Qi energy path is the heat / light energy going anti-clockwise upward spiral form along the spine, while another path is clockwise downward spiral moving downward along the spine.2. Mr Melchizedek says Qi is dragged from nature, while Merkaba is from 4th dimension and he is correct. This is also true. In our practice we drag Qi from nature, sky, earth or trees, etc. We do not drag "4th dimension energy". Afterall we don't have a pyramid in Hong Kong.3. Multiple Qi paths are running simultaneously in our body or what we called meridians. We have "water" imaginary energy path going UPWARD and "fire" energy path going DOWNWARD simultaneously (straight line) in the middle meridian (not spine). Before reading the book, I was always wondering why energy moving upward is far easier than moving downward--Because I am also a "left-brainer".However the prana and breathing techniques are different. My understanding is that western way and Chinese way we are learning 2 different approaches to the same goal. The flower of life geometry and origin of human story is completely new to me, but is fully complement to the Chinese Yin-Yang (i.e. "2") and then One (i.e. Tao or "1") then Zero "0" or void. This is simply amazing.

I would like to return this title for a credit just like a did with the Volume 2 one. I should have known not to get the second one. There are many Figures in both books that just don't show up in the books which is very frustrating so there is no possibility of understanding the geometry he is describing. Volume one is the same. Some photos show up but no geometric figures. Please return. I may have to buy the hardcover at a later date. It must be because of Kindle or something.

Oh boy, you can't get a better book than this and the other one. It has answered all my questions and my life is peaceful. It was the right timing for me and I hope others find the same. Drunvalo is very connected to source and has all his memories from living on other worlds/planets. Yes it is possible. Where do you think we came from after all! Jump into this one.

I was supposed to read this book before taking a class. I ordered a Kindle version.I was quite disappointed and frustrated to find that around 75% of the diagrams which were needed to explain the text were not included.Unfortunately I was not prepared for the class. This e book is not acceptable..

2.5 stars It’s 225 pages on Sacred Geometry, not on how one might construct the Merkaba. Although quite brilliant, Drunvalo leads the reader on a dizzying number of approaches to his subject, which I’m not sure I could even nail down. Is the book worth the money? Yes, if you know ahead of time that it won’t get into much substance.BTW, the Kindle version lacks/ can’t load many of the illustrations that the book shows.

I would have given this book 5 stars but because there are many times though out the book it refers you to his 1st book for the information that willdeepen your understanding of the subject at hand, that being said, I would suggest getting both books at the same time. I happen to be after information that is in his 2nd book and went ahead and ordered both books at the same time. Started reading the 2nd book and because I didn't start with his 1st book I had to flip back and forth to get better understanding. Hope I didn't confuse you... bottom line, I suggest ordering book 1 first or both together.

This book is pretty good. The only issue I have with it is a major lack of organization. Many of the ideas discussed seem to stop right in the middle. There are many times when the author says "we'll come back to this" but it doesn't really make sense why he changes the subject in the first place. Makes it a little hard to follow.

If u ever wondered about the pyramids and UFO'S this is for you. Really makes u think alot about what is fact and fictional. To me it explains the tall black shadows you hear Amy Allen talk about on the ghost channel. Evil is real and many know how and why. This book gives you the 411.
