When my wife and I visited Kenya a year or so ago to go on a safari, we found ourselves wishing, again and again, for a quality map which would allow us to see, quickly, exactly where our driver was at any particular moment. This year, as we plan to return for an even more extensive tour of that nation, we decided to find a map which we could use repeatedly and yet, one that would hopefully stand up to the rigors of constant openings and closings. This is that map! Printed on heavily, reinforced paper, it is easy to read and extremely interesting. The only problem is that there are simply too many places noted by the mapmakers in their careful detail which also sound appealing but which we cannot viait because of time restraints. Maybe yet another visit? It is easy to recommend this map for anyone.

I used this map to chart a two week safari as a momento. It's good quality and will be a keepsake. Anyone who is thinking of driving themselves in Kenya should stay home!

This map would be great for whole-country touring of national parks and heritage sites. Roads among the major cities are shown along with ways that these connect to the main destinations for foreign travelers, and there are helpful symbols for different sorts of features at the various sites. What I need, however, is a country map that includes city maps of Mombasa, Nairobi, and Kisumu. I was hoping that this map would include insets; I wanted NG authority and detail at a local as well as country-wide level. Alas, nothing. I need paper maps--wandering around Mombasa holding an ipad ahead of me is not preferred--and these don't seem to be available outside of stores in those cities. Oh well. National Geographic: there's a new map opportunity for you!

It's difficult to find good travel maps that are at a scale that is usable. This one looks great, and is a similar scale to others we have used. Maps seem so old school, but when you are traveling to places that have sketchy cell reception they are a small price to pay.

We spent 2 weeks in Kenya, visiting Niarobi, four animal parks and Lake Turkana. We wanted a good Kenya map to keep track of out travels. This map had good detail and was durable. The only negative was it was a little out-of-date, showing a major road as only under construction.

Product arrived earlier than predicted. The map is very detailed and apparently accurate. Nature reserves are clearly indicated and a number of extra information is also included, for example a number of the climbing huts on Mt Kenya. Very pleased with my purchase, though the postage costs nearly equalled the original buying cost!

Good sturdy map. Looks like it will hold up very well on my trip. My only complaint is how they chose what goes on which side.

The map arrived on time.The only glitch was that whoever put the map in the envelope didn't do it carefully and it has now acquired a permanent diagonal crease.The map itself is excellent, detailed and very useful, especially when in the "Turkish" part of the Island, with the dual Greek and Turkish place names.

Who Was Cesar Chavez?     The old theater in Fresno, California, was buzzing with people. A crowd of farmworkers and their families had gathered there for the first meeting of the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA). Cesar Chavez stood on the stage. He was shy, and not a strong public speaker. But his warm smile and friendly manner drew people in to listen. He had started this union—a group organized to protect workers’ rights—to help thousands of farmworkers, including many Mexican Americans, who lived in poverty and were treated unfairly in their jobs.   This day, September 30, 1962, marked the beginning of more than just the farmworkers’ union. It was the start of a movement—a group of people working together to share an idea and bring about change. Cesar had once worked in the fields himself. He had watched his own family, and many others, suffer to earn enough money to survive. He had a vision for a brighter future for all farmworkers.   Many things were decided at the NFWA’s first large meeting. Officers were elected and future plans were discussed. Union members unveiled their flag—a black eagle in a white circle on a red background. The colors had meaning: black for the hard life of the workers, red for the sacrifices they needed to make, and white for hope.   At the meeting, they also agreed on their motto: Viva La Causa! (say: VEE-va la COW-sa) Long Live the Cause!   Cesar had worked hard to get the union started, and there was still a long battle ahead. But he was a determined man. He believed in hard work. He believed in sacrificing time and money to help others. He believed in protesting peacefully instead of using violence.   Cesar led a movement that brought major changes to the lives of farmworkers. He also changed the way Mexican Americans were viewed in America. With Cesar’s guidance, they came together. They demanded attention. America could no longer ignore them.     Chapter 1: The Arizona Ranch     Cesario Estrada Chavez was born on March 31, 1927. His family lived outside the town of Yuma in the Arizona desert. Mama Tella and Papa Chayo, Cesar’s grandparents, had come to the United States from Mexico. They had settled near Yuma in the late eighteen hundreds, bought land, and started a ranch. Papa Chayo died before Cesar was born, but his grandmother still lived in the main adobe house. Cesar, his parents, Librado and Juana, and his brothers and sisters, lived on the ranch, too.   Cesar was the second of six children—older sister, Rita, and younger siblings Richard, Helena, Vicky, and Lenny. Sadly, Helena died when she was just a baby. At first, the family lived in a room off the main house. They owned only a few pieces of furniture. They had no electricity or running water. When their roof started leaking, the family moved into a cottage on the large ranch.   Cesar and his brother Richard spent their time exploring, hiking, and playing outdoors together. They swam in the canal that brought water to the alfalfa, watermelon, grass, and cotton crops that grew in the fields. They liked to ride horses and climb trees. The family gathered for barbecues on summer nights with Cesar’s aunts, uncles, and many cousins who lived nearby.   But the boys had work to do, too. Cesar’s father taught them how to chop wood, work with the horses, weed the crops, and know when the watermelons were ripe. Librado was strict, but patient, as he shared important farming skills with his sons.   Cesar’s mother, Juana, wanted her children to grow up to be good people. She taught them to share with others without expecting anything in return. And, even though many Mexican boys were raised to be tough, she did not believe in fighting or violence. Cesar remembered one of her sayings throughout his life: “It takes two to fight, and one can’t do it alone.” In other words, even if someone wants to fight you, you have the choice to walk away.   The Chavez family was Catholic, but there wasn’t a church close by. So Juana and Mama Tella taught the children their religion at home. They gathered around their grandmother’s bed at night to hear stories of the saints. The stories of these holy people who had lived very good lives made an impression on young Cesar.   Beginning in 1929, many American banks and businesses went out of business. Millions of people lost their jobs and lived in poverty. This was known as the Great Depression. During the Depression, it was very difficult to find work. The Chavez family didn’t suffer as much as many others, however. Their hard work on the ranch provided them with food—fruit and vegetable crops, fish from the canal, eggs and meat from the chickens, and milk and cheese from the cows.  Juana, with her generous heart, even invited less fortunate people over for meals.   When Cesar was six, he was old enough to attend school. But when he arrived at the schoolhouse, the teacher wouldn’t let Cesar sit next to his sister, Rita. She asked him to sit with the other children in first grade. He cried and insisted that he have a seat next to Rita. The teacher finally gave in. After a few days, Cesar felt ready to sit with his other first-grade classmates.   But Cesar never really liked school. He would have much rather been outside on the ranch where he wasn’t forced to wear shoes! At school, he also discovered how unkind some white people acted toward Mexican Americans. Cesar’s classmates made fun of his brown skin and called him “dirty.” They tried to start fights with him. Cesar always spoke Spanish at home with his family. But his teacher hit him on the knuckles with a ruler if she heard him speaking Spanish in the classroom.   At the time, more than 1.5 million Mexicans lived in the United States. Many had come in the early nineteen hundreds, looking for work—and there had been plenty of jobs. But during the Depression, jobs were scarce, and many white people blamed Mexicans. Some were deported, or sent back, to Mexico—even if they were American citizens! Those who stayed faced racism in their communities.   Even though the Chavez family was luckier than many during the Depression, by 1933 the ranch itself was in trouble. Arizona suffered from a drought. It had not rained for a long time. The canal was dry and the earth in the fields was cracked. No crops would grow. The family could not pay its bills.   Hundreds of thousands of other Americans who had lost their jobs headed to California to find work. California was suffering from the Great Depression, too. But there was no drought in California. And because the state has some of the richest farmland in the world, workers were needed to pick crops, which included tomatoes, lettuce, grapes, avocados, strawberries, peas, cherries, and corn. So in 1938, Cesar’s father headed west to California. He hoped to earn enough money to support his family and save the ranch.

My kids loved this book and learned so much about the story of our Latino Mexican-American heroe. There is so much information that I didn't even know. Bought some of these books so they can read during vacation❤️

I like these books because they put a persons life in a readable and personalized format. The fact that he dedicated his life to this cause was sacrificial to his home life but obviously very important in his life.

The art was nice. I was turned off by the subtle colonial fantasy of it all as a Black reader.I gave it three stars mainly for how off the wall it got in the last part. It reminded me a great deal of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

I didn't really care for it. It seemed rushed through. Every piece of it was rushed through. Need more time put into it.

I have found it invaluable as I make a new effort to learn this challenging program. As I write this review, a new, and hopefully easier to learn, version of Blender is scheduled for release in just a few months. "The Complete Guide to Blender Graphics: Computer Modeling & Animation" is based on version 2.79 that is still the main version in wide use. The book breaks learning Blender down into simple steps where each feature of the program is explained in just a handful of pages each. Pure printing quality of images and fonts, but this is not main problem. I am still reading first chapter but I badly surprised about a lot of stupid mistakes which must be fixed in 2th edition of book but still here in 4th edition: like wrong left/right mouse button, Alt/Shift modifier, canceling some action by indirect way, so kind of strange. Seems "4th editions" is only to mark that is like "up to date" and not old but truth is that text looks likes directly form 1th edition. There is no even chapter names on every page, it is very inconvenient for navigation, and I cannot understand how it can be in 4th edition. Now I've realized that I had to choose other book, I just was attracted by colour print, broad coverage and 4th editions (thought all mistakes already fixed) but print not good, 4th edition is a joke and broad coverage already doesn't matter if it fails on first steps. Usually I write directly to publisher or writer about mistakes but in this case looks like they absolutely don't care.

This book gave me a deeper understanding on using blender. This book did the job that the online video tutorials could not do. Well worth the investment!!!

If, like me, you find jumping from one video tutorial to the next to be a somewhat discombobulating experience, here's the answer to your prayers. You certainly won't find a better illustrated book on the subject matter. If you're new to Blender (and maybe even if you're not) and you're serious about learning Blender, don't hesitate to buy this book. It's the perfect companion to Blender itself.

About the Author

Despite brief out-of-state interludes for college, grad school, and a stint as a ski bum, Hilary Nangle has never been able to resist the lure of her home state. She grew up on Maine's coast, spending much of each winter skiing in the western mountains. This book has great information and although even wearing glasses, it's hard to get excited about using this book over the others I have. Sadly, the paper is very thin, print is extremely light and super small! It was the most expensive of the 4 travel books I have on Coastal Maine and Acadia. I have hundreds of small paperbacks with 2x's the size of print and much darker print as well. Very cheaply done. I'd give it a 1 star, if not for the fact, that the information is interesting.

Moon's classic black-and-white series wins again for those us who are independent, detail-oriented travelers who like to plan our own journey. I have previously used the black/white Mexico City, South Korea, Yellowstone, and Panama guides. Just like those, this guide is the step-by-step journey planner, even if you are just doing part of the Maine coast. The guide starts in the Portland area and has separate sections for each region that ends in the Canadian border area. This was helpful because it made it easy for me to plan drives out from Bar Harbor down to the mid-Maine coastal towns, taking into account exactly what the points of interest are along the way and giving fairly honest feedback on each. This was helpful to pinpoint areas people don't typically notice, like Blue Hill or Castine. So essentially, the whole thing reads like one giant, beautiful road trip. The only critique I had was for the restaurant selections - I guess most of use Tripadvisor, Yelp or word of mouth these days anyhow, but most non-Mainers heading up there are probably looking for local seafood. The guide ended up suggesting places like pizzerias and sushi restaurants, when what we really wanted to find were the best lobster shacks! This guide is great if you plan to do a bit of driving around for your Maine trip - if you are just hopping into Acadia, a map will suffice and you probably don't need this guide.

What an awesome book on Maine. Everywhere and everything to do in each town is very well written. 487 pages of ideas to do. Beautiful colored pictures to get the feel of what the author is explaining. Maps also to provide on how to get there. My whole family loves this book. Having family from Maine they too were amazed about how this book has so much information. This author really took the time out to also give you .coms and how much each event is and when things are open and which are closed at certain seasons. It really made planning a whole lot easier. I highly recommend his book to anyone that wants to have an easy travel to the gorgeous state of Maine. A book that can last for a very long time. My money was very well spent for buying this beautiful book of Maine.

If you are doing a coastal Maine road trip, this is your book. If you are mostly interested in visiting Acadia National Park, get Hilary Nangle's book (also published by Moon) that focuses solely on the park. I bought both and this one has only a handful of pages on the park. There is overlap between the two books, but if Acadia is your focus, this book is much broader and won't suit your needs.

I really thought that with the numerous travel apps available, having a guidebook was unnecessary. Luckily my (justified) fear that Eastern Maine would have poor cell service convinced me to pick up this book as a backup. What a gem! Numerous times we found hikes, restaurants, even entire towns we never would have found in our own. Recommend both coastal Maine & this book!

This book is perfect with lots of information for things to do and see in Coastal Maine, including Acadia area too...! Our son & family moved to a new home in Downeast Maine and we will be heading up to visit them soon and your book "Coastal Maine" is a perfect companion for our trip so we can plan out things we want to see and do when we visit Maine for the first time a month from now...! This book is packed full of information and historic facts, information on State Parks, off the beaten path things to be sure to see, it will most definitely be very helpful to us....! In fact..., I just ordered a second book "Coastal Maine" to give to my son & family when we visit, it will surely be useful for them also since they are newbies to Maine....! Thank you for this great book, it will surely be put to good use very soon...!!!!

I bought this for a jaunt to the Maine coast. We were just driving, and had no idea where we'd stay or eat. This guidebook steered us to three excellent B&B's, an interesting fish ladder, and a restaurant with the best lobster I've ever had. There is plenty of information here for a longer trip -- many things to see, things to do. Nicely arranged, and good photos. I'll definitely have it in the car next time I head to the coast.

This book has so many "locals only" insights and information on hidden gems that I cannot imagine taking a trip along the Maine coast without it. This book aided in our trip planning and proved very helpful as we traveled along the Maine coast from Kittery to Lubec. I would highly recommend this book for any traveler to Maine, from first time visitors to Maine vacation veterans. First timers will get insightful information to plan and veterans will certainly find lesser known attractions and activities.
