Review

"As a physician, exercise scientist, and masters athlete, I've come to recognize the critical importance of strength training in maximizing performance. Running Anatomy lays the groundwork for proper strength, cardiovascular, and mental training for runners of all abilities. If you're a runner looking to reach your full potential, you need to read this book."Jason Friedman, MD--Exercise Physiologist, and National 100K Age-Group Champion "I cannot overstate the impact Joe Puleo has had on my running career. One of the biggest challenges as an amateur elite runner is the workload balance between training and managing a career as an active-duty Marine, all while holding off injuries. Puleo's knowledge and advocacy for strength training have been force multipliers in allowing me to run fewer miles, train smarter, and continually push my boundaries as a distance runner. This book is a great addition to any athlete's library."Major Christine M. Taranto--Two-Time PIAA State Champion, Two-Time Marine Corps Athlete of the Year, Second Place Marine Corps Marathon (2015)

Excellent text with good anatomy pics and explanation of application to runners. Good mix of both the technical side with coaching tips. The exercises are targeted for runners but can be applied to any sport with need for strengthening and increasing basic speed. I would recommend this to anyone coaching your own athletes or starting out in community coaching. Good reference for experienced coaches.

This book explores anatomy (and to a lesser degree physiology) as it pertains to running, and shows how one can strengthen anatomy to increase one’s performance as a runner.I will divide the book up into three parts, though that division is not explicitly made by the authors. The first three chapters discuss running fundamentals. Chapter 1 explores the nature of movement in running. The reader learns about the phases of the running gait and the muscle activation relative to said phases. The second chapter focuses heavily on the anatomy and physiology of the cardio-vascular system and the impact it has on muscle performance. Chapter 3 discusses external factors that can influence running performance such as air temperature, humidity, terrain, and altitude. The second part of the book consists of the middle five chapters, and gets to the heart of the subject. These chapters investigate the role of musculature in running and show numerous exercises that can be used to strengthen said muscles as well as describing the activation of muscles in those exercises. Starting from the ground up, these chapters proceed as such: feet and ankles, legs, core, shoulders and arms, and chest and back. One might not think that the upper body is critical to running, but the authors demonstrate otherwise. The exercises selected assume the availability of a full range of fitness equipment: machines, free weights, as well as elastic bands and BOSU – though some bodyweight exercises are included. The third part of the book explores some odds and ends that are crucial, but not covered in earlier chapters. Chapter nine explains how to avoid injuries. Running is an activity that offers plenty of opportunity for repetitive stress injuries because it’s an endurance activity involving iterated actions. Chapter ten explores alternative training programs (e.g. training in the swimming pool or on treadmills), and the pros and cons of such activities. The last chapter is about gear, and – not unexpectedly – much of it is devoted to shoes and questions such as whether one needs orthotics. It should be noted that the authors are firmly in the camp that favor footwear. (There are many advocates of barefoot running in recent years.)There are many color drawings that show which muscles are activated by movements. The drawings are clear and effective. There is an index of exercises at the end that makes it easy to find various exercises.I’d recommend this book for runners and trainers who are interested in how muscles can be strengthened and stretched to increase performance and minimize the risk of injury.

Helpful new edition of this terrific book describes which muscles are engaged when running and jogging and the exercises runners should do to improve performance. Great anatomical drawings illustrate what’s going on. Also includes info on runner’s aches and pains ranging from the IT band to plantar fasciitis. Great update to an essential book in your running library. Recommended!

I bought this book for my daughter. She's 15 and has been playing since she was 6. I'd consider her an advanced pianist. She absolutely loves this book. There are songs with various levels of difficulty and length. She loves the comb binder which makes it easy to turn pages and keep them open. I included some photos for you to see the difficulty of the pieces. Recommended.

Great collection of piano sheets. I already the volume#1 and this one is similar in structure and complexity. For thoses interested in its content, I'm adding 2 photos.

A variety of selections at my fingertips which I am very grateful for. These go well with my advanced studies in music. The selections of Rachminoff, Bach, Beethoven, Shubert, and many others are very versatile and all pieces dance from intermediate to advance. So far, I have no complaints. The pages are clean and the spiral binding is very convenient making the pages easy to turn. I would recommend these to any serous music student. These offer wonderful pieces if you have a recital or small showcase to do and you aren't sure of what piece to perform. This collection is also good for extending your knowledge and getting a real feel for many different crucial composers. I have yet to see a better collection than this.

If you like playing classical piano, you must have this "Piano Classic" book. I bought both number 1 and 2. They have many challenging classical piano music on them varies from lower intermediate to advanced. Some of the popular titles include. Since the author is confident enough to let you see inside of the book before you buy it, I don't think it's necessary to add the titles on this review. But I can tell you that all the music are the exact same way the composers wrote them. They are not rearranged.

I bought the the first volume and was so happy with it I immediately ordered this one as well. And am I glad I did that - it's a great supplement to the first volume, with even more pieces in a great selection. My personal favorites in this one are the choices from Bach (of which there are about ten), because they are a bit harder than in the first volume but still very rewarding.

I am always on the search for compellations of music not necessarily published for piano. This and its companion volume 1 answer this desire. Quality is fine, though there are some selections that are more difficult due to staffing........ after all some pieces probably not seen a printing in years. At least they are playable and readable! I'm not too picky.

I love both book one and two in this collection because they are so varied and because I can actually play about twenty percent of them and strive to play the rest. So many are my favorites and it's great fun to sit and play from them or to "practice" them, even with old arthritic fingers. As I play, in my memory, I can hear my mother calling from the other room -- "F#, Hiildegarde -- F#! Go back two measures and try it again!" Mamma is long gone, but her practice disciplines live on. And these books are simply wonderful to play from. I just bought a set for my daughter to play from and relax a bit while she is pursuing her PhD.

Excellent book for piano,i bought this second piano classic since we love also the first one. Varaiety of pieces is large with many types of levels for meduim to advanced so both my son and I use it a lot .
