About the Author

Dr. Vasant Lad, BAMS, MASc, brings a wealth of classroom and practical experience to the United States. He received the degree of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pune, in Pune, India in 1968 and a master of Ayurvedic science from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Pune, India in 1980. He served for three years as medical director of the Ayurveda Hospital in Pune, India. He also held the position of professor of clinical medicine for seven years at the Pune University College of Ayurvedic Medicine, where he was an instructor for many years. Dr. Lad's academic and practical training includes the study of allopathic medicine (Western medicine) and surgery as well as traditional Ayurveda. In 1979, he began traveling throughout the United States sharing his knowledge of Ayurveda, and in 1981, he returned to New Mexico to teach Ayurveda. In 1984, he founded and began his position as principal instructor and director of The Ayurvedic Institute.

The book is OK maybe because I do not have an Ayurvedic background. Some of the materials are clear, but some materials are unclear and needed to be explained by the author in more detail. It is harder to learn to read the pulse unless you have a teacher so you can ask questions. So, I took the Summer Intensive seven day Pulse Reading Practicum in June 2015 from Dr. Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute. Now, the book makes more sense and easy to understand.Notice: Some editions on page 34 have a misprint for the left hand on the seventh level: Kapha (Spleen), Pitta (Heart), and Vata (Kidney). So, if you didn’t take the class you would have read the wrong pulse for the seventh level or you could of have looked at page 35 to verify.The correction for page 34 should be Kapha (Kidney), Pitta (Spleen), and Vata (Heart) at the seventh level.

I like this book for its concise yet detailed writing. The images help a lot and the explanation of Ayurveda makes it special to me. It does require a lot of practice so those who think its a magic, please do not try pulse reading.This book helps.

I found this book very informative and helpful. I have put some of its knowledge into work already. Nonetheless, of course, it is very hard to teach the subtle intricasies of taking Ayurvedic pulses without a direct teacher. One day I hope to find one. This book probably does as well as anything can in the meanwhile, and it is nice to see such a througoh collection of these technqiues on paper. Glad I bought it.

I am studying Ayurveda and I was sure this would be a good addition to learning everything I can about Ayurveda.

this is not for anyone that is looking for a book for reference or pictures of Peru ... very disappointed by what I received .. less than 60 small pages ... might have been willing to keep it if it was 3 buck instead of the 28. For this amount of money I expected a travel book I could use to show my friends my trip .. guess I should have bought one on the trip for 12 bucks.

It has a plethora of information on acrylic paints, very useful information, especially if you are new to acrylics. There is a great section on colour usage and planning a painting, explaining step by step instructions ways of getting the focal point and surround pleasing to the eye, using imagination and different approaches.I was very pleasantly surprise with the information, and the informative way this book writes about en plein air with acrylics. It is not a follow the leader type of book but a source of skills and development for the artist

En Plein Air: Acrylic is one of those rare art books that you never really realized you wanted/needed, until you see it. This guide is all about learning to paint with acrylics on site – as in, out in the open air. I know that sounds like something you wouldn’t need a guide for, but it’s actually quite useful, I promise. Knowing what supplies are worth bringing, versus those to leave home. Not to mention learning how to paint what is right in front of you, as opposed to painting from memory or imagination. It’s all very different. This book covers a lot more than just learning to paint outside – it also includes basic painting tips, tricks, and skills that are endlessly useful to know. En Plein Air starts off talking about the outdoors, then basic materials, and before you know it we’re elbow deep in color theory. There’s even a chapter about how to plan out your painting! It all has this elegant flow to it that makes learning easier.

If you're a studio artist, wondering how to get started working out of doors, this guide is a good starting place. The author covers the same basics as many art books, but it is geared specifically for En Plein Air work, explaining what to pack and how to plan your painting.I don't think this is really a beginner's book, but it does cover some beginner's concepts such as color theory and the color wheel. The author also goes into suppliers, the types of brushes, pencils and palettes, types of acrylics, acrylics vs. oils and a few techniques.I think parts of this could be used for beginning artists and some for the more advanced artist trying to plan an En Plein Air experience. #EnPleinAirAcrylic #NetGalley

I use this more as a daily devotional. Each chapter ends and begins with church like music or spiritual like music. the narrator's voice is a little robotic however it is if he's reading the book to you and not for you and I do appreciate that. I will probably add more of these type of books in my collection.

I have enjoyed reading this book for the 2nd time. It is very interesting and makes the people of the Bible more real. This is the first of a set of 5 books called the Conflict of the Ages series. They go through the bible and the last book includes history of the early churches during the persecution of those who did not worship the way in which the majority thought they should worship. Very good books.

I just finished reading this book. It's amazing, this writer is absolutely amazing. The Bible expositions are on point.

This is inspired writing by Ellen G White about Adam and Eve's fall into sin up to the Exodus that I am currently reading. I am sure you will be inspired by reading the book that explains the Bible more clearly to help us understand the Bible better especially in the Old Testament times.

This was an amazing book that provided clarification to scripture. It pointed out a lot of valuable lessons that I previously missed. I recommend this book to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of old testament and scripture.
