I had purchased Frank McCourt's book Angela's Ashes and really enjoyed the book. He was such a good writer and lived an interesting and sad life. After reading Angela's Ashes I wanted to read more of his work about his life so I purchased Tis, which is a book about his life. This is another extraordinary book by Frank McCourt. He writes so honestly and his love, sadness and triumph comes through. I recommend Tis and other Frank McCourt books. I've never seen the movie based on his books, and they are very vivid and some times heartbreaking and honest.

An excellent reminder of the hardships encountered by our parents and grandparents who came to America in search of a better life.

After the grueling Angela's Ashes the McCourt (and most imigrant Irish) saga continues. So many of these folks just never found the right warm and fuzzy place to settle into that the movies always told us about did they? Maybe this ought to be required reading for those of us who have forgotten how difficult it was and still is to be an immigrant. I'm grateful that my ancestors were so poor that they quickly moved on towards the midwest to make a life, away from the temptation to hop another ship back to the old country. Unfortunately the lessons of those terribly difficult assimilation years haven't stuck with very many of us so as to imbue us with more compassion for today's newcomers. I'm glad the McCourts stuck it out long enough to provide a good lesson.

I got this CD set to listen to at work. I had already listened to "Angela's Ashes". Now, I am listening to "Teacher Man". Frank McCourt is hands down my favorite writer. He is such an inspiration. He is one person I really would like to have met. If you wanted to just reach back in time, find little Frank and give him a hug during "Angela's Ashes", you might not feel exactly the same about adult Frank. He is no longer directly in the grip of his mother's poverty once in America. His mentality is still in the slums of Limerick, though not because he really wants it to be. It really is just all he knows and what was engrained in him. Throughout this book, you see his charm and intelligence shining through. But, his self doubt seems to always have a hold of him, dragging him back down. His ignorance of so many things most Americans take for granted and his severe humbleness make him endearing all the same. I would recommend "Tis" to anyone. If you had a tough time while growing up, you will be able to relate. I suppose, if you had a perfect childhood, you can get a glimpse of how the rest of us felt. :)

This was such a wonderful honest book. I felt like I was listening to an old man I just met at a coffee shop. He tells you the story of his life in such a wonderful way. I cannot imagine the things that he grew up with. I find his honest revelry regarding his own struggles with alcohol heartbreaking. He did what he knew. He spoke of alcohol being the curse of the Irish, that his father ruined his childhood because of drinking and yet he himself couldn't control it. One thing that stuck out was his struggles with religion. It saddened me when he said that he didnt know how to have a conversation, direct prayer with The Lord. Through his struggle he became something, and I think that's what everyone needs to know!

Poignant, intense, exciting, gut wrenching yet heart warming are the scenes, actions and memories described in this continuation of an indepth look at the the trials, tribulations and successes of Frank Mc Court and his family. As you read it, you "are there" in New York, in Ireland, -at Mam's almost reunion with Frank's father, - in the army with Frank in Europe, - in church, - in the boarding house which provided meager temporary shelter, - in the countless dull mind-numbing jobs he had before becoming a teacher, - in the classroom trying to inspire lethargic students. With wit, and a lot of mischievious charm, author Mc Court escorts us through his romantic liasons, marriage and birth of his daughter, - his brothers arrival and existence in New York,- his own "coming of age in America" as he matures, - and the death of his beloved mother, Angela, (Mam).'Tis a grand saga. 'Tis a grand book. -- 'Tis. Now let's see the movie. John Wayne, Barry Fitzgerald, Victor Mc Glagen (The Quiet Man") would have been ideal, but they are gone. That leaves Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting) or Robin Williams ( Dead Poets Society). How about it Mr Mc Court.? Write the screenplay for the movie based on your memoir triology, or at least give us another outstanding book!!!

This is a funny, but somber, well written account of an Irish immigrant (the author) and his family "troubles". He also wrote "Angela's Ashes" and has won many awards. It is a window into a certain time in the history of immigrants from one country and the changes and obstacles they faced, and the country they left behind but stayed in torch with.

I really enjoyed "Angela's Ashes," and like this book even more. You basically could combine the two into one big book, as one is just a continuation of the other. Both are written in McCourt's unique style and both are a pleasure to read. I think "Tis" gets the extra star from me because, whereas "Angela's Ashes" really kept you feeling bad for the boy throughout, "Tis" is a story of hope and promise. Much happens to Frankie McCourt once he gets to the U.S. and the life he leads here keep you both interested and wondering just how he would be able to turn his fortunes for the better.This, as was "Angela's Ashes," is a very honest book. In no way does McCourt attempt to cover up his flaws or missteps. In no way does he try to paint himself a hero. You get the real deal here, and many times I found myself closely relating to what he was thinking at any given moment.I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book, the second in a series about a girl who works and rides at a horse stable. Part fiction but part fact, the story rings true to any of us who have loved horses as a teen and were willing to do any dirty job to be near them. Horse lovers and animal lovers alike will both enjoy Gidget as well as Joe. As Vicky grows and learns about horses you truly find yourself rooting for her to do well. The obligatory love interest/bully is also ringing true for me. Who didn't fall in love with a boy at a stable? Vicky is just a way better sport about his insults than I ever was. I found myself reading longer and faster to see what would happen, and when I hit the end I said "what?" it's done? I read it in an e book format so I didn't realize I was that close. Now this can be a stand alone book but you really were left with the sense "and then what happened?" as if Vicky were sitting at your table telling you this story. Add to all this that it is a clean book so no language to bog you down, and the Christian message is quite clear. I am anxiously awaiting book 3 in the series.

Just finished this one..another humorous, matter of fact story, well written and simply a joy to read! The fact that Vicky knew almost nothing about training a horse but taught herself with some reading, common sense, and lots of compassionate love had me hooked from the first book..Joe, the Horse Nobody Loved (Burton's Farm Series, Book One). This book simply added onto that heart-warming appeal and made me buy the next two books in the series. I intend to keep purchasing anything written by Vicky Kaseorg; I completely enjoy her wit, style and obvious love for living beings.

I loved the first book about the horse named Joe so much, I was a little nervous about starting this book. I couldn't see how the author could top the first book, but she has! It was a joy to read how young Vicky grows in confidence through working with a new horse. As an added interest, her new friend Bella is gently introducing her to spiritual things. I can't say enough good things about this book, and it, along with Joe's story, goes on my forever, favorite-books-of-all-time shelf! Highly recommended, especially if you, like me, was a shy, awkward girl who loved horses.

This continuing story of a young girls experiences growing up with horses and learning about people through them, is a great read. I recommend reading her first book in order to really understand her humor and get a feeling for the tone of this story.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was not quite as good as Joe the Horse Nobody Loved, but I still enjoyed reading it. This would appeal to young readers and anyone who enjoys reading about animals. To fully understand the characters, I would recommend reading the book about Joe first, as this is a continuation of that story.

This is the second book in her series and loved it as much as the first. Vicky saves another horse, the horse farm, and helps hurting children. What more could you ask for? The Christian world view is a bonus without being preachy or taking over the story.

Another great book by Vicky. I have read several of her books and this one did not disappoint. She said it is a novel but it reads like non fiction. Very believable. The characters in "Joe" that continue in this book seem the same. The two books are synched very well. Mick was as bad in one as the other.

I bought this book after reading the book Joe The Horse Nobody loved. After reading the first chapter I knew I had to buy this book. Very well written. I enjoyed the story about Vicky and Gidget especially after Vicky lost Joe. I highly recommend this book.

This book was certainly the most interactive books I've ever read; even more so than those `Choose your Own Adventure Series' books that I will never actually admit to purchasing. The medium in which the author made her book available played a huge role in my enjoyment of the material. I was able to purchase her book through the Kindle store on Amazon.com and download it onto my iPhone. This made it extremely convenient to interact in `real-time' with the various website links that Thomases provided in her data references. This `interactive' theme carried its way throughout the entire book, enabling me to be `just click away' from relevant blogs, stories, feeds and references.Another example of Thomases interactive theme was the placement of personalized handles for specific references (i.e. "Jeremy Neas (@Jeremy_Neas) sites in his review..."). Doing this definitely gave me a newfound appreciation for everything Twitter offers and made my reading experience that much more enjoyable.Textbook to Reference GuideThe book makes a big transition after chapter three which ends part one. It transitions from a text book to a reference guide. Part two goes hour to hour, day to day, and week to week about how to transition from a Twitter "rookie" to a serious power user. I consider it a reference guide because the author understands she doesn't have all the tools. She does understand where all those tools are, what they are, and the benefits of each one. Additionally, she does a very good job at clearing out the noise of the web and consolidating all the necessary requirements that a business (or person) must have to extrapolate the functionality and usefulness of Twitter. That is what makes this book so powerful.

I am not a marketing person per se, but as a business executive I have to appreciate any resource that helps me get my arms wrapped around a new technology and how it can be leveraged to improve my results. I have been a Twitter user for nearly two years, but my use is limited mostly to personal networking, following news in my industry, and staying connected with my home city while I travel extensively on business.The beauty of Twitter is its simplicity, which allows it to be molded in many ways by the user and third-party API communities. It is evolving rapidly as a marketing tool and it's time that my company (and many others) take advantage of this; always better to be a pioneer than a follower. I've found no better guide and reference for this than this book. Hollis Thomases, a web marketing pioneer in her own right, breaks Twitter marketing down into easy-to-digest pieces, lays out a straightforward plan for implementation, and provides at the same time a significant reference for advanced use of Twitter specifically and social media in general.The book starts with the question that is first on people's lips - "just what is Twitter?" - and explains it much better than I've ever been able to, weaving in its history, features, emerging culture, and who is using it (and for what). Once the fundamentals are disposed with, she moves quickly into a weekly plan to get your organization up and running on the Twitter platform. This is accomplished with an engaging voice, plenty of case studies, and examples appropriate to any kind of enterprise. She includes a lot of discussion on third party applications and tools which are really the heart of Twitter's power and without which this would be just another novel web application. Ultimately, she gets into the meat of what we're here for: building your brand, promoting your product or service, measuring results, and avoiding the pitfalls that can accompany any marketing tool.This book will be ideal for those just starting to explore this tool as well as the seasoned social media professional - and for those, like me, not directly responsible for marketing but required (and eager) to understand and realize its strategic value. As a combination of how-to simplicity and valuable reference, this volume can't be beat, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Getting this book from Amazon, at their deeply discounted prices, makes the purchase well worth it. However if you see this at a bookstore and have to pay full price I'd advise a quick jotting of the title and author down so you can get it off Amazon later. The book does what it claims to do, help you market your product through Twitter channels. Being comprehensive I have to say it included a lot of ideas and actions you easily could find out for yourself simply by taking part in Twitter. But what makes the book worthwhile is all the resources it provides the reader, many I never would have known about without the book. Hmm.. Perhaps some of these referred sites should have followed some of the author's recommendations. For a beginner, which I was when i started reading this book, you will learn enough to warrant the price. For someone who has been in the twitterverse for some time perhaps not as much. Yet even in that case the references in the back of the book are a very useful tool to have in one spot. I'm really not sure what more I expected from this book, which i did enjoy, but as seems to be the case with any how to, or educational book, it always seems like something additional could have been included. In this case, again, I really don't know what that little extra could have been. I'd recommend this book though for the reasons I've mentioned already.

Very detailed and specific. I liked the daily plan, weekly plan, monthly plan the author uses to get a new Twitter user up to speed by giving specific lessons or goals in bit sized pieces.
