This is an excellent book for an introduction to the Systematic approach to Theology. Thorsen does an excellent job at presenting view points from many denominational backgrounds and presenting both Eastern and Western views of Christianity. If you are looking for a book to explore the various beliefs of Christianity, this is a great start. That said, I wouldn't get it as a book to justify your own beliefs as Thorsen present's many different viewpoints.

This is my third purchase of this book. I gave the other two away. My brother is a college philosophy professor teaching theology, ethcs, pholosophy, etc. He recommended this book a couple of years ago to help me understand and teach systematic theology to high school seniors at my church. Wow, this is the best unbiased literature I have found that helps me uderstand all sides of deep theological Christian issues.

I really like this book because it was easy to read and yet had a lot of important theological information.

As expected

This book is a good overview of Christian Theology. However, it is easy to see how one might be fooled into thinking this book is for younger children, mainly because of the cartoon style pictures throughout. This is a late high school through early college aged textbook that systematically deals with theology in the Christian faith. It also includes theology from early church fathers up to the modern (and post modern) era.

This was a text book alongside Grace Faith and Holiness for a theology class I took last term. While certainly not an incredibly deep work of theology, this does a great job of sharing the topics and a handful of viewpoints that need to be considered when learning about theology. It should not be the last theology book anyone reads, but it should be the first or used as a compendium for a heavier book such as the previously mentioned book by Dunning.

This was a text book for my Systematic Theology class. It has been a serious pleasure to read. Thorsen is able to explain intricate theologies in simple terms. You can grasp proufound truths without feeling like you are being talked to as a child. He avoids technical terminology and sticks to the meat of the materal. He offers broad perspectives and gives due diligence to the many sides of different arguement. He rarely, if ever, tips his hat toward which position he holds.I have learned plenty in this book and have yet to have to re-read a portion because I couldnt take in what he was communicating (which is not true of our other text for the class).Pastors, laymen, theological thinkers, and the curious will all enjoy studying theology through this book.
