This is an excellent resource for people with chronic pain. It's written by people who have chronic pain but are also mental health providers. One of the authors has led chronic pain support groups for about 20 years.It discusses:- Understanding pain and myths- The 6 Psychosocial Stages of Chronic Pain- Treatment Planning (includes the Treatment Tree which shows each area of your life that's effected by pain (ex. Social, emotional, career, physical)- Coping skills and strategies- Family and Social interactions- Alternative treatments- Support group modelI attended 2 classes developed from this book. They were very helpful in my working thru chronic pain and becoming better able to cope. This book was originally intended for providers, but is used by many people who have pain. It gives you hope that there are ways to manage pain in addition to what your doctor does.If you have chronic pain, this is a valuable resource that will benefit you. If you are running a pain support group, this is a wonderful resource of topics and tips for leading a group. It's textbook size with 259 pages, so you get a lot of material. Lastly, the money from the purchase goes to a non-profit pain group. I recommend it if you want to live a more full life with chronic pain.
