About the Author
Andy Harvey has leadership experience in both military and law enforcement careers. Andy has trained leaders around the country in leadership, community relations, and media relations. Andy has led in crises overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in New Orleans just days after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. He earned his Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas and has attended several police executive leadership programs including the Leadership Command College in Texas. Andy also served as a First Sergeant over the 136th Mission Support Group at Carswell Naval Air Station before retiring in 2008. Andy currently serves as the Chief of Police in Palestine, Texas.

Being a former Police Sergeant gives me a good perspective from both worlds: Cop and Citizen. This book is NOT just for Cops, but citizens as well. I would even go so far to say that everyone SHOULD read Andy Harvey's "Excellence in Policing".It is written simply without usage of big words that need to be looked up in the dictionary, yet makes such good sense that you wonder why you didn't think of it already! Here are just a few of my favorite quotes from the book:"A commitment to excellence is what separates goodness from greatness. The opposite of excellence is mediocrity, average, and doing the bare minimum because it's good enough"."Prodedural justice means that citizens care more about how they are treated by authority figures than anything else.""You are in the service industry, whether you choose to embrace it or not."AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE:"Allow the citizen to tell their story, even if you choose not to take their side when deciding.
